The finding of a natural source for treatment of Gitelman syndrome has been running into many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially with promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Gitelman syndrome is an autosomal recessive distal renal tubular disorder caused by defective sodium chloride transporters inducing hypokalaemic metabolic alkalosis, hypomagnesaemia and hypocalciuria(1). In other words it is a kidney disease caused by an imbalance of ions of potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Recent study lead by the University of Padova suggested that patients with Gitelman syndrome are associated to increase existence of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress of that status could offer chances for new therapeutic targets in disease characterized by high levels of reactive oxygen species(2).
According to the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. treatment of Gitelman syndrome may include oral potassium supplement, weekly intravenous potassium and magnesium infusion, correction of vitamin D level and the offering of appropriate dietary advice(3).

Avocado and banana rich in potassium and yogurt and  plain chocolate may be used a daily dietary sources for treatment of Gitelman syndrome in replacement of oral potassium and magnesium supplements.
In take of vitamin D fortified low fat milk should also be necessary for increased absorption of calcium according to study. Furthermore dietary change plays an important role to maintain right levels of potassium, magnesium, and calcium in the blood for prevention of the syndrome induced complications.

The combination of  Avocado, Banana, Yogurt, Plain Chocolate and Vitamin D fortified low fat milk  smoothie may hold a key in further studies in production of an effective natural ingredients for  treatment of Gitelman syndrome without inducing adverse effects.
